Responsibility
- Positions Howard County Library System (HCLS) as a major component of public education for all ages
- Ensures HCLS’ educational mission achieves its racial and social equity goals
- Effectively lives the Seven Pillars of HCLS’ strategic plan (Authentic Values, Strategic Vocabulary, Everyone a Leader, Winning Teamwork, Community Partnerships, The Power of Us, and Fiercely Loyal Customers), motivating others to do so as well

Essential Functions
- Work with adult participants to assess personal strengths and English language needs
- Plan for every lesson
- Assist in enrollment and assessment
- Monitor student progress
- Keep student attendance record
- Attend staff meetings and in-service activities
- Participate in other program activities
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of processes
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
. Requirements:
Education, Experience and Skills
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
- ESL, Education or Reading Certifications a plus
- Training and experience in adult education preferred
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively
- Proficient in computer skills.
- Knowledge of virtual meeting room platforms (Webex, Zoom) required
- Instructors must have own devices and access to the Internet to teach lessons.
- People skills – ability to work effectively with others and enjoy it
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships
Physical Standards
- Job allows for variance in work routine, requiring considerable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and sitting
- Strenuous activity required, such as carrying bags or boxes of books (weighing up to 30 lbs.) or arranging rooms for events and classes
Additional Details
- Contractual position; Salary $20.00- $24.00 hourly
- Works under the supervision of the Adult Basic Education Manager
- Work hours vary, approximately 5-10 per week, based on need
- Typically Monday – Friday evenings, some weekends required
- Position closes 5:00pm Friday, January 29, 2021
