Swampscott Public Schools is seeking tutors to work with English language learners across the K-4 grade span who have fallen behind academically because of the interruptions in schooling over the past 8 months. The goal is to help students improve skills in phonics, reading comprehension, and writing. (This is not to support their instruction in English language development). Targeted students all have a good grasp of conversational English.
After School Remote Academic Tutor for English Learners (3 openings)
- Provide tutoring in reading, writing and math to elementary (K-4) ELL students over Zoom
- Small groups of between 1-3 ELL students
- Groups will meet for 30 minutes, 3 times a week
- Hourly pay including 30 minutes of prep time per week per group
- Tutoring sessions are scheduled between 2:30 and 5:30 PM.
- $40/ hour
- Minimum tutor commitment is for two student group (4 hours / week)
Qualifications: Massachusetts teachers certification and experience working with elementary students.
School Day ELL Remote Tutor (1 opening)
The ELL Remote Tutor will assist ELL teachers with supporting their ELL students. Under the supervision of a certified ELL teacher, the tutor will work remotely with select students to develop English language and academic skills during the school day. The ELL Remote tutor will work 15 hours per week between the hours of 8:40 AM and 12:15 PM on a schedule agreed upon with the supervising ESL teacher $25 per hour.
Qualifications: BA or equivalent experience. Experience or desire to work with Elementary students on literacy skills. Ability to follow lessons plans provided by the supervising ESL teacher. Attention to detail and record keeping. Comfort with Zoom and Google applications (docs, spreadsheets).
