Later in this article, we’ll talk about how you, too, can live an exciting and profitable life as part of a blogging, traveling family. But first of all, let’s look at some of these families and explore the fantastic and enviable lifestyle they have created.

1. It’s a Lovely Life

Pete and Heather Reese have been traveling with their families for close to 20 years, giving their daughters a chance to enjoy a very different lifestyle growing up. Although based in Southern California, they spend up to 150 days a year on the road - traveling from Hawaii to London and beyond.

A simple plan you can follow to become a globe-trotting blogging family (making oodles of money from anywhere)

The Reese family make $1 million a year from travel blogging

If you have any doubts as to whether blogging as a family can be a profitable venture, just check out the Reese family income reports - they will blow your mind. Here’s a family that’s clearing well over $1 million a year from their blog. In one month, they cleared a massive $238,027.82...not bad for a little family travel blog 🙂

And all this while having the time of their lives!

Heck, most people would be happy to working in a boring job in a boring town if they could collect over a million bucks per annum. But these make that kind of money (and more) whilst touring the globe and having a ball. That’s the way to do it!

2. Crazy Family Adventure

Here’s a family of six (eight if you include the dogs) that was crazy enough to quit the 9-5 routine in 2014, sell everything and go off on a big adventure. Now they spend their days touring North America in an R.V.

When they aren’t out climbing mountains, hiking to a waterfall or playing at the beach, you will probably find them at the local donut shop or brewery - trying to find the best donuts and beer in North America! This family loves to share stories and information about:

  • Things to do with kids at various destinations
  • Full-time family travel issues
  • Life in an RV
  • Living and working on the road

They also pay the bills through their online business, which provides a range of services ranging from online marketing to coaching others on how to live an amazing life like theirs.

3. YTravelBlog

Caz and Craig Makepeace are travelers from our own home turf, the stunningly-beautiful Central Coast in Australia (our home base, too - see you on Terrigal beach one day, guys!). Now they travel the world with their children and have a blast exploring the planet.

This family loves to travel

"We’re serial travel addicts” they say. “We like to call the world our home. We’ve lived in 5 countries and had adventures through 53 others. We prefer deep, enriching cultural experiences rather than counting countries.

"For us, life is about accumulating memories, not just possessions. We’re now creating those precious memories with our two daughters, Kalyra and Savannah. We travel with our girls full time, while working on this travel blog (as well as homeschooling (or lifeschooling) our girls.)

"We’re here to tell you your life does not have to fit in a box. You don’t have to live behind the picket fence, slave away at that full-time job that sucks you dry, and the monotonous peak hour traffic runs.

"You can travel anywhere in the world on little dime, you can rock up in a country where you know no one and have life-changing experiences, you can travel with the one you love and have a thriving relationship, and you can create a strong lifelong bond with your children through the shared memories of travel.”

To prove the point, this family even earned a US Green Card on the strength of their ‘extraordinary ability in the art of travel blogging.’ That’s serious blogging!

"To be clear, we’ve created a lifestyle of travel for over twenty years without a trust fund, without special privileges, or well-connected friends. We’ve made it happen with an intense desire and by putting one foot in front of the other.”

4. The Family Without Borders

Anna and Thomas have been traveling since 2010, and are now dedicated to seeing the planet with their young family. They are certainly getting to see the world. It all started with a long road trip Around the Black Sea and through the Caucasus to the Caspian Sea and back to Berlin.

family without borders

The next trip took from from Mexico down to Guatemala, Belize and Honduras - with Bosnia and Herzegovina next on the list. Now they travel as far afield as New Zealand and the South Pacific - hitchhiking, sailing and getting around any way they can.

5. Our Next Adventure

As a busy Mom, Laura knows that traveling the world with a family is not easy. So she likes to help other families out by sharing her experiences of touring the globe with ‘little humans.’ This blog provides lots of tips and tricks for travel, plus all the inspiration you need to get there and do it yourself!

“I’ve always been inspired by faraway places and dreamed of a gap year abroad.” Laura says. “But instead of traveling the world at a young age, we followed the more practical route – finishing school, building careers, making a home, and starting a family. Sure we wanted to travel more, but it never seemed to be the right time.

blogging around the world

“10 years, 2 little girls, and one suburban home later, we decided our lives weren’t meant to be lived in one place. We re-imagined what our lives could look like, traded things for experiences, and starting traveling in every spare moment.

“Now that we’ve figured out how to have the best of both worlds without going broke (or losing our minds, quite frankly), we want to inspire other families to get out there with young kids too!”

6. The Bucket List Family

The Gee family sold everything in August 2015 and set off on a journey around the world together. Now they are a family of five family travel journalists who document their adventures online as ‘The Bucket List Family.’

When they set off on their first adventure, they were excited about the possibilities:

“We were going to take the typical next step in life and ‘grow up’ and build a house and settle into careers..buuut how bout not! We're not quite ready for that. We feel like we still have so much to learn about life and happiness before we can set up our future life and home.

“That's why we started our family bucket list. We decided as a young family that now was the time to form healthy habits and create traditions that will hopefully shape us into better people the rest of our lives.”

ticking things off their bucket list...

Over the years, they have had a lot of fun - and they are ready for all the opportunities of the future, too:

“It will be interesting an interesting challenge to find a balance between home life and continuing our travels and work as family travel journalists around the world.  Really, we understand how unique and amazing this opportunity is to take on the adventures of life together as family.

“It all started by making the decision to step outside our comfort zones, step way outside the norms of society, and follow our hearts for what we felt would be the best path for our family.”

7. The Family Adventure Project

And we know from our own experience that family adventures are good for family relationships, health and wellbeing, learning and education, and for developing character and resilience.”

8. Trekaroo

LiLing and Brennan started traveling as a family four months after their first son was born. They ventured to the stunning ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru. As avid travelers before kids, they were determined to keep exploring, but soon learned traveling with a baby was a whole different ball game.

trekking around the world...

Now they have built a community for fellow family travelers, and are able to enjoy the good life on the go. And as their children grow up, the number of adventures expands:

“Our kids are now adventurers themselves and exploring together is core to our family. Sometimes it's a nearby tide pool along the California coast, while other times, you’ll find us scaling Mayan ruins or swimming with whale sharks. Sometimes we learn from our misadventures too.”

9. Travel Loving Family

Lisa and husband Richard and we are the proud parents of two little adventurers, and have traveled to over 80 countries. They consider themselves to be lucky to be full-time travel writers and explorers.

From the US to the Caribbean, and from the UK to many other parts of the world, they certainly manage to get around.

"Although travelling with children takes a little more time to plan and prepare the rewards of travelling as a family are so worth it," Lisa says. "Richard and I met whilst both working for P&O Cruises and so we have always shared a passion for travelling, meeting new people, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures and traditions."

They certainly don't intend to let family considerations stop them from traveling:

"Since having children we have continued to travel abroad and around the UK. (Albeit at a slower pace and with lots more luggage!)  When Charlie celebrated his first birthday he had already been on 18 flights, many of them transatlantic from living in Savannah, Georgia, USA for the first year of his life."

10. The Palmer Family

Ah, that’s us! We are a pioneering digital nomad family that has been traveling the world and making money online since 1999. When my first online business took off, we set off for Ireland in a rusty VW campervan and loved the fact that we could travel and make money at the same time.

Before long, our adventure took us to Australia, and then on a non-stop adventure around the globe. We are now a second-generation digital nomad family, with three members of the family making money online and traveling.

So we can testify without reservation that blogging while traveling is not only a viable possibility, it’s a fantastic way to make a living. We have had so many adventures along the way, and we look forward to racking up many more in the future.
