Work as a Technical Copy Editor

Full Job DescriptionOur client is looking for a Technical Copy Editor for a short term contract through the end of the year. The project requires a Technical Copy Editor to transfer 8-10 legacy documents into a new company format, then complete minor technical edits. The documents range in length from 6-25 pages. Our client requires a candidate who can work on central standard time (CST).

Technical Copy Editor Responsibilities:

  • Check content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite work as needed to improve readability
  • Suggest changes, verify sources and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare the work for client presentation and publication
  • Edit according to project specifications
  • Code copy for design features, such as hierarchy of headings, to instruct the production team
  • Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text
  • Follow a style checklist to ensure consistency in trademarks, hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
  • Proofread material as demand and scheduling requires
  • Collaborate with account services team as needed for specific project objectives
  • Ensure all editing results in a consistent voice and tone across all copy, in alignment with the brand tone and voice standards
  • Edit and be accountable for the final review of writing assets and ensure accuracy (e.g., facts, quotes), attention to detail (e.g., grammar, punctuation, syntax, semantics) and that the project overall meets or exceeds the writing objectives
  • Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions
  • Become familiar with legal guidelines to expedite approval process
  • Deliver edited, complete and error-free copy
  • Understand clients’ products, audiences and business objectives and ensure copy is accurate and effective
  • Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows
  • Actively learn new techniques to be more proficient in editing skills
  • Leverage research and data to inform editing executions

Technical Copy Editor Requirements:

  • Proficient expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks
  • Understanding of editing applications in multichannel marketing applications
  • Outstanding quality control practices
  • Ability to project manage/traffic personal workload
  • Ability to state opinions clearly and verbally describe purpose of edits
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
